Τοῦ πολυπλάκτου δυστυχοῦς ὀδυσσέως
ὅμηρος ὧδ' ἔγραψε τὰς πανουργίας
δόλους τὲ πολλοὺς, καὶ πλοκὰς τῶν ψευσμάτων·
ὡς ἂν βλέποντες οἱ νέοι καθημέραν
καὶ νοῦν ἐπερείδοντες αὐτοῖς ἐμφρόνως,
τὸ κάλλος ἐκπλήττοιντο τῶν νοημάτων·
καὶ τὴν ταχίστην συμπλοκὴν τε καὶ θέσιν·
ἀλλ' ὦ πολύτλα καὶ πλανήτα καὶ γέρον·
ὁδοὺς ὁ πολλὰς ἐκδραμὼν, μακροῦ βίου·
πόλεις τὲ πλείστας εἰσιὼν, ἀνδρῶν νόον·
ὁ γνοὺς μαθών τε τῶν φρενῶν ἐμπειρία·
εἰ δή γε τὸν σὸν εἰς ἅδην ἐπαινέτην
ὅμηρον εὔροις, ἄσπασαι, καθὼς θέμις
χάριν τε πολλὴν τῶνδε τῶν ἐπῶν χάριν·
