| Palaeographical information | Initial written in red ink and decorated with blue ink. Written in the margin of the page is the date '6709' (1200/1201). However, some scholars argue that the two epigrams were most likely copied, along with the main text, from an earlier manuscript (dated to the early 13th century) - see Stevenson (1885: 24): 'subscriptio autem videtur ex archetypo transcripta'; see also Gallavotti (1980: 230-234). Jacob (1988: 185-203), on the other hand, presents a detailed paleographical analysis of the manuscript, on the basis of which he argues that the epigram was indeed written by Palaganos himself at the beginning of the thirteenth century. |
| Contextual information | The epigram occurs at the end of the Odyssey. It is followed by a dodecasyllabic epigram written in red ink, inc. 'τυφλὸ(ς) γέρων ἔγραψε τ(οῖς) νέοις πάλ(αι)'. |
